the latest iteration of the ipod case

teaching my cousin frankie how to carve a stamp on christmas eve. no pictures of the result, but it was a very cool christmas tree.

prototyping and doing

so, i got my hands on some designer 3mm felt. i have some new ideas for ipod/iphone cases, but i wanted to test the stuff out first. so, this morning i threw together this ipod case. the craftsmanship is rather poor, but i learned some lessons. hopefully the next ones will turn out better.

new features:
- the designer felt gives it a lot more impact protection
- the applique is glued on because i'm lazy (also: the applique is regular thickness felt, only the blue felt is the 3mm stuff)
- i lined it with some cotton fabric (from an old pillow case)
- there is a velcro strap. i'll probably do the next one with elastic and a button
(thanks to liz for the feedback on the iphone cases i made for her and her boyfriend cameron)

side note: i highly recommend using sanford rubber as opposed to factis for stamp making. the factis is much harder to work with.

fun with erasers

i was bored, so i turned my eraser into a couple stamps

germans are always one step ahead of me

when i was in berlin a couple months ago looking for halloween costume supplies at modulor (which is my new favorite store), i came across these extra thick sheets of designer wool felt (3-5mm thick). i thought this would be an excellent material to make ipod/iphone/etc cases out of. something similar to my previous felt cases here and here. well a couple days ago i came across these really cool cases from elecktropulli. i really like the patterned liner. they even come mit klimapflaster (literally: climate band-aid... i.e. they support offsetting co² projects). unfortunately, i can't find this thicker gauge felt in grand junction (not surprising), so i guess i'll have to go back to berlin.

stamping

i had time for one last make stuff/do stuff project while i was in berlin. i made a set of rubber stamps for my friend steffi's xmas present. this was my first crack at stamp carving, and while there were mistakes here and there, overall it was reasonably successful. i think my biggest problem was the crumbly nature of the rubber i was using.

a quick note to say that i've been too busy having fun in europe and have not been up to my usual standards of making and doing. but i am almost back (currently sitting in the toronto airport) and will be making/doing/posting soon.
