måking and døing

this is a special travel edition of the blog. i was in malmö, sweden and spent a few days staying with my friend ken and his girlfriend karin. karin makes some amazing stuff and has an incredible collection of supplies and machines (i.g. yarn, thread, fabric, sewing machine + serger, knitting machine). she makes these really cool birds:

and bees:

ken and i spent an evening drinking colorado beer and making toques and swedish souvenirs from scrap fabric:

before the hate mail starts rolling in from my swedish fan base, i want to acknowledge that i'm aware "ø" is not actually in the swedish alphabet, but it looks very scandinavian and is more fun than the "ö".

i'm backpacking through northern germany, denmark, and sweden, so there won't be any making or doing for at least another week.

machen und tun

my friends steffi's birthday was last week, so i borrowed a friend's sewing machine in berlin and put together a quick... thing? you be the judge. side note: my german is not yet good enough to understand the sewing machine manual.

mini making

here are a few small making projects i've done over the last couple of weeks:

i taught my mom how to knit. how many times does a son teach his mother how to knit? the next lesson will have to be welding. this is a picture with her and her squirrel towel.

while my mom was busy making clothes for rodents i was making another wrist band.

my snowboard bag before i fixed it...

...and then 30 seconds later.

my belt broke during the road trip from vancouver to colorado, so i cannibalized the buckle and with some cotton webbing and a new grommet i made a new one. ta-da.

the last minute sleeve for my new netbook.

making and gifting

last week i got a goodbye/good-riddance gift from my buddy cameron in vancouver. it was a photo album chronicling our shenanigans over the last few years. further proof that personalized gifts are better. this is easily one of the coolest things i've ever received. a special thanks goes out to his girlfriend and apple computers for their help. here are some selected pages:

*note that i wasn't actually drinking from the pitcher. it was just for the photo. what kind of lush do you take me for!?*

i'm still alive!

the last month has been crazy with the move out of vancouver and the road trip back to colorado. it's about to get crazier with an upcoming trip to europe and the great unknown after that. i have had a little time while i've been in colorado relaxing with friends and family to make and do though. my latest little project were a couple of iphone cases i had promised to some friends in british columbia (although they will not receive them unless i get an address soon... cough cough... hint hint). these were inspired by a couple of cases i found while wasting my life away in the blogosphere.

*note* there is an impending blog hiatus (or at the very least a significant slowdown) as i take off for other continents, but if i have an opportunity to make stuff of do stuff in other places i will try my best to post them. there will probably be a supplemental travel blog (although i use the term "blog" loosely) while i'm away and i will link to it once it's up and running.
